FERNANDO GARCIA, born in New York City has remained loyal to his Colombian roots, embracing his passion for all Latin Rhythms, especially Salsa Music, for the past two decades. Driven by a passion for culture, music, and dance he started training at an early age in ballet, modern, jazz, and Caribbean dance styles at the distinguished New World School of the Arts under the direction of Daniel Lewis, later training and teaching dance classes in Rumba, Cha-Cha, Waltz and Swing ballroom styles at Arthur Murray’s Dance School. Besides dancing, Fernando is a trained boxer who turned down the opportunity to go professional with the Golden Gloves choosing the road of a dancer and performing artist. Fernando has produced and choreographed fashion shows in Colombia, South America and was a judge for numerous Salsa and Lambada competitions in South Florida.

He has shared stage performing with Gloria Estefan, Chayanne in “Premio Lo Nuestro”, Tony Succar, Tito Puente Jr., Lefty Perez, Leonardo Sierra, Melina Almodovar, and Lucy Grau at numerous Latin Music Festivals preserving Salsa music and its beautiful history for generations to come. Fernando currently teaches Salsa in Miami Beach at several locations and recently partnered with “The Movement” a non-profit organization driven by the same vision of making dance classes accessible to all regardless of age or ability to pay.

Fernando produces many of his own music dance videos showcasing new dance choreographies, dance classes, theme shows, and city-wide events bringing the best in dance, fitness, and entertainment to his students of all ages. In the last decade, Fernando has merged his professional dance training and background with his personal fitness training focusing on the overall benefits to the collective mind, body and soul and building the successful city-wide dance, fitness and entertainment company “Fitness by Fernando”.

The fitness program provides whole body benefits including cardio dance classes (Zumba and other formats), toning and body conditioning classes, strength training, yoga and relaxation techniques, and dance classes including Salsa, Bachata, Hip-Hop, Samba, Dembo, and Socca for all ages. He finds the time to work out every day, teaches over 14 classes per and inspires others to learn to live a healthy lifestyle.

In 2014 Fernando was hand-picked by our First Lady, Michelle Obama to lead a Zumba Kids fitness class for elementary school children in the City of Miami as part of her national “Let’s Move” Campaign bringing awareness and change to schools across the country on proper nutrition, health, and fitness. Fernando was honored to dance with our First Lady, Michelle Obama and also teach some dance moves to special guests Alonzo Mourning and Mario Lopez who attended the event.
