Ian McKeown is an authority on sustainability, corporate social responsibility, public engagement, event production, policy, outdoor sports, and climate science. He has a passion for travel and service. Adventure and scientific curiosity propels his resolve to build a nature-minded future through technology and promote an active outdoor lifestyle. Ian is stimulating the rise of sustainability through technology, policy, pollution reduction, clean energy, inspirational storytelling/ media, and community partnerships.

Ian McKeown is currently The Sustainability Officer for Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He has developed a world-renowned corporate social responsibility program through innovation, education, outreach, policy, research, partnerships, events, media, and branding.

Through a love of entrepreneurship, Ian gained invaluable experience working with startups and consulting with numerous organizations. Recently, he contributed to a single use plastic ban awareness campaign and world-leading legislation passed by the City of Manhattan Beach. He also assisted to integrate sustainability into Shaun White’s 2018 AIR + STYLE festival. He is currently shaping global policy as an ambassador for 5 Gyres and a member of the City of Manhattan Beach Sustainability Board.

An accomplished kiteboarder, Ian has sponsorship affiliations with Dakine, Bureo, Liquid Force, and Patagonia. He has been featured in numerous media outlets and competed in prestigious events such as the Triple S Invitational.

Ian was the founding employee of the University of Miami’s sustainability program. He designed the initiative from the ground up including greenhouse gas protocols, events, goals, partnerships, branding, and funding. During this time, he served on multiple government boards.

He has received numerous awards for his programs and is emerging as a thought leader through media appearances and speaking engagements. Finally, Ian is a member of the exclusive changemaker communities of Summit, EPX, and ACTAI Global.
